TRY SAILING DAY, on Saturday October 21st
21 October 2023 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Try Sailing, Try Scouts
If you’ve ever wondered whether your children would like sailing but have not had the opportunity to find out, then Fremantle Sea Scouts have the event for you. TRY SAILING DAY, on Saturday October 21st is a new, exciting initiative by Fremantle Scouts to enable young people from 7 to 14 years to taste sailing and decide if they would like to take it up. The event will be free, safe, family friendly and conducted by qualified instructors.
Scout Leader Derek Giles says, “Scouts are a great way to learn to sail because the young people work as a team. In the end they are learning cooperation skills that apply throughout life. And forget the old fashioned idea that scouting is a boys only thing. These days it’s boys and girls together.” Regular crew member Alba Chambers-Farre looks forward to the event, saying, “Sailing is enormous fun particularly because you do it with such great friends.”
The event is part of a membership drive by Fremantle Sea Scouts undertaken to overcome recent difficulties. Since losing one of their venues last year, Fremantle scouts have been refurbishing their remaining hall. They consider that increasing membership will assist this process. “More hands on deck would help greatly,” says committee member Tim Chambers.
Opening of the Season – Swan Yacht Club
In addition to sailing events, Fremantle Sea Scouts and Cubs meet regularly and are a fun and sociable way to learn a wide range of outdoor and independence skills.
Try Sailing Day will be held at the Swan Yacht Club at the front lawn on Riverside Rd, East Fremantle on Saturday 21st October from 10.00 to 12.00. No booking is required. Bring suitable clothing and a sense of adventure. Contact is 6240 7700 for inquiries.
